Schools continue to add to ShelterBoxes for Haiti

It has now been four weeks since I started the eagle.ca Haiti Relief Challenge. I knew we could secure two ShelterBoxes and I optimistically hoped for five.  As of this morning we are working on ShelterBox 47.

Five more boxes were added this week when Dale Road Senior Public School presented me with a cheque for $5,000.

Additional school contributions were received from Beatrice Strong Public School, Baltimore Public School, St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School and C.R. Gummow School.  Thank you to all the students and their families for helping us make a difference to families in Haiti.

ShelterBox has begun to issue box numbers and in a few days you should be able to find the eagle.ca & Friends boxes on the ShelterBox.ca Roll of Honour. One of our first 11 boxes was the 2,998th box that ShelterBox Canada has deployed.

Watch this recent video about how ShelterBoxes are making a difference in Haiti.

Of the 10,000 ShelterBoxes designated for Haiti, 1,000 of these will come from Canada. Camps have been setup in Port-au-Prince as well as areas outside the city.

ShelterBox has also worked with the women’s charity V-Day in providing 40 ShelterBoxes to vulnerable women in Port-au-Prince. In addition, 50 ShelterBoxes have been given to the French association, Enfants de la Rue, to help house children caught up in the quake.

The rainy season in Haiti is fast approaching. More ShelterBoxes will be needed. Please consider helping by making a donation to ShelterBox Canada, either at their website or through the eagle.ca office.

Cheers,

-tom
