Artisan Studio Tour Package

Northumberland County stretches from historic Port Hope, north to the rolling countryside of Rice Lake and east along Lake Ontario through the charming towns of Cobourg, Grafton, Colborne and Brighton. This mix of rural, waterfront and heritage small town has become home to a significant arts community. You are invited to immerse yourself in this unique lifestyle. There are over 130 artists in Northumberland County.


Ontario Artisan Studio Tour

We can arrange half-day or full-day visits to the studios of 5 - 15 artists, two co-operative art galleries and the Northumberland Art Gallery - either self-guided for independent travellers or with a step-guide for groups of 10 - 40 people. We can also arrange for luncheon and/or dinner at a local Inn.

The Zen of Seeing - a Drawing Workshop

The more you see, the more you can draw. Conversely, the discipline of drawing enables one to see and feel the world more profoundly. Explore the awakening of early spring when the ice is breaking up - stimulate your senses and capture the spontaneity of paper. Come during the summer and fall, and paddle and sketch from a canoe from a Tom Thomson perspective. Join experienced naturalists and artists on nature walks and bird watching. Study contour, gesture, shading, perspective and composition. Come away with a renewed sense of observation. Drawing kit provided. Min: 4 people. Max: 8 people

Ontario Drawing Workshop Getaway Package:
Add 2 nights accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, PLUS workshop - all for only $380. per person.

This artistic experience can be customized for 2 - 4 days, with or without accommodation. Guests will stay at the Victoria Inn in Gore's Landing - an authentic lakefront country Inn nestled in the rolling hills along the gentle shores of Rice Lake - just two hours east of Toronto. This idyllic setting takes you back to the ambience of the early 1900's. There are nine rooms with private bath (capacity for 9 to 24 people). Food has an important focus at the Inn. Fresh home cooking celebrates the bounty of the countryside featuring local produce, lamb, bison, pheasant and trout. There are spectacular vistas and sunsets, country roads and conservation areas. Ontario Paddle Painting Workshop

Join Curve Lake artist, David Johnson, at the Canadian Canoe Museum. Make a paddle into a true treasure by learning how to paint a scene or animal on the blade!

Cost: $150./person [includes materials, lunch]

Drum Making Workshop

Hear the patter of rain, footsteps or the beating of the human heart. Discover the power of rhythm, music and community. Spend a day at Alderville First Nation Community with Gerrard Sagassige, learning the technique and culture of drum making. All necessary materials to make your own rawhide drum provided.

Length: 6 hours.

Min: 4 people. Max: 8 people.

Intensive Puppetbuilding Workshop (adults only)

with T.V. puppeteer Nina Keogh. For artists, non-artists, parents, educators, those who like to sew, or just have a love of puppets. You'll be amazed at what you can create! Nina Keogh is a third generation puppetbuilder and puppeteer since 1968. Her screen work includes Mr. DressUp, Friendly Giant, Razzle Dazzle, and many more, and working with stars such as Oscar Peterson, Peter Ustinov and Tim Allen.
