Experience Description:
Settlement history is brought to life on the shores of the rivers, lakes and canals of the Kawarthas. Immerse yourselves in the natural beauty and rich settlement history found on the banks of our lakes and rivers.
We can help you arrange an itinerary to include:
- a living history experience on the banks of the Indian River at Lang Pioneer Village with live demonstrations and over 20 historic buildings
- an evening listening to a shoreline reading about Catherine Parr Traill and her part in the settlement of the Kawarthas
- walking through the rare Black Oak Savanna and learning about the natural and aboriginal heritage of the Alderville First Nation Community
- attend one of 4th Line Theatre¹s idyllic outdoor productions of Canadian historical drama
- attend an outdoor concert at the Westben Arts Festival Theatre
- visit the sacred Indian burial grounds at Serpent Mounds Park on the north shore of Rice Lake
- visit the Canadian Canoe Museum, gateway to understanding Peterborough's history as the canoe building capital of the last century and home to the largest collection of canoes and kayaks in the world.
Dates Package Available:
- Sunday/Monday or Wednesday/Thursday (excluding long weekends) from late May to early October.
Use the Victoria Inn as your homebase. Indulge yourself as you dine and stay overnight at the Victoria Inn.
Take time for swimming and canoeing and relaxing.
Package includes:
- welcome and orientation
- 2 nights accommodation, 2 dinners and 2 full breakfasts at the graceful, century-old Victoria Inn
- 1 picnic lunch
Cost: $300/person [taxes excluded]
Optional Elements:
- boat cruise: $15-$50/person
- Black Oak Savanna: $50/person (paid directly to Victoria Inn)
- Westben or 4th Line Theatre: $25-$30/person (paid directly to the Theatre)
- admission to Serpent Mounds Park: $7.50
- boat cruise on Rice Lake
- nature walk in the Black Oak Savanna
